Want to know why Rolex is the best watch brand in the world? Joe Escobar Diamonds is proud to be an Official Rolex Jeweler and we are going to present the six best reasons that Rolex is a world apart in watchmaking. The Rolex name is synonymous with quality and the following are just six reasons why Rolex is the best watch brand in the world.
1. Stainless Steel
Rolex exclusively uses the exotic super alloy 904L steel. 904L has a much higher chromium content giving it maximum corrosion resistance. The chromium forms a thin impervious barrier on the alloy’s surface when exposed to oxygen. When scratched, the chromium oxide barrier fills and protects it immediately, reducing the scratch’s appearance and propensity to rust. Special extremely hard tools, made out of tungsten carbide with an anti-wear coating were developed just to stamp out a single Oyster case from a solid block of 904L.
2. Gold
Rolex has its own in-house foundry to ensure the quality and purity of all precious metals used in the manufacture of their watches. Rolex uses palladium in its white gold, so no rhodium plating is required. Rolex stabilizes its pink gold with platinum, making the rose color more beautiful and permanent. This is a patented process and is called Everose gold.
3. Waterproof
Every Rolex Oyster case is placed in a water tank for testing. It is then positively and negatively pressure checked. On January 23, 1960 the Swiss designed U.S. Navy bathyscaphe Trieste reached the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The Rolex Deep Sea Special was attached to the outside of the vessel which successfully descended to a depth of 10,916m (35,814ft). In 2012, a new prototype, the Rolex Deepsea Challenge, was attached to the manipulator arm outside of James Cameron’s Deepsea Challenger when he became the first man to reach the same location in a solo-manned vessel. No other watch has ever been tested to that depth or pressure.
4. Movement
All Rolex movements are completely manufactured in-house. Each movement takes one year to produce. Over 200 technicians will work on the movement effectively combining “High Tech” and “High Touch”. Rolex movements are all certified Official Swiss Chronometers and meet the required specifications of -4 to +6 seconds per day. COSC (Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres) is the Official Swiss Chronometer institute responsible for certifying the accuracy and precision of wristwatches in Switzerland. Every movement submitted to COSC is individually tested for fifteen days, in five positions, at three different temperatures.
5. Quest for Quality
Rolex has a long-term perspective when it comes to the manufacturing and servicing of a Rolex watch. Rolex continues to pioneer and invest in new technologies and materials for its watches. A Rolex watch is the perfect combination of state of the art technology and watch making tradition. Rolex servicing is so precise that specially designed and adapted tools are required for servicing. Movements are designed with the interchangeable Rolex parts. This guarantees longevity of the movement and makes them far more serviceable for the watchmaker. Rolex’s unparalleled quality and commitment to service gives Rolex watches lasting value.
6. 100% Rolex Swiss Made
Rolex manufactures 100% of its watches in its four Swiss factories and controls each step of the manufacturing process: product design, component production, assembly and final control. Rolex does this is ensure that is produces consistently reliable watches. Rolex is known for this constant quest for quality.
